Lavenders
Lavenders are a must have for any garden, with their wonderful fragrance, these traditional plants are perfect for a cottage garden theme, herbaceous border or lining your pathways. Here at Thompson's we grow close to 5000 Lavenders with a good mixture of English Lavender & French Lavender varieties. We grow them from cuttings taken in April, before potting them in 2 litre pots in August so that they're ready for the following Spring. They're sustainably grown in peat free compost, and grown in a glasshouse under irrigation. Our nursery staff have been expertly growing Lavender for over 20 years now, so with our 3 Year Hardy Plant Guarantee, we're confident you'll get a superior quality Lavender grown by us.

How to care for lavenders
Lavender is a wonderfully low-maintenance plant, but a little care will keep it thriving for years to come. Ensure it's planted in a sunny spot with well-drained soil—lavender doesn’t like wet feet! Once established, it’s drought-tolerant and only needs occasional watering during prolonged dry spells. To maintain a neat shape and encourage bushy growth, lightly trim your lavender after flowering, being careful not to cut into old wood. Avoid feeding too often, as this can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
Need help planting your lavender?
Lavender is easy to grow when planted correctly. Follow these simple steps for the best results:
- Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with free-draining soil.
- Dig a hole just slightly larger than the root ball.
- Mix in a handful of grit or sand if your soil is heavy or clay-based.
- Place the plant in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
- Backfill with soil and gently firm it around the base.
- Water in well and add a light mulch of gravel to help prevent damp around the roots.
