Growing Conditions
Light:
Requires full sun for best flowering, colour intensity, and compact growth. Needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil:
Prefers well-drained, light, sandy or gravelly soil. Thrives in poor to moderately fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soils. Avoid heavy clay or waterlogged conditions.
Exposure:
Performs well in both exposed and sheltered sites. Tolerant of wind and suitable for coastal gardens.
Drought Tolerance:
Moderate to high. Drought-tolerant once established, though benefits from occasional watering during extended dry periods, especially in containers.
Cultivation & Care
Planting Time:
Best planted in spring after the risk of frost has passed, or in early autumn in milder climates.
Spacing:
Allow 30–45 cm (1–1.5 feet) between plants. Proper spacing ensures airflow and reduces risk of fungal issues.
Watering:
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water sparingly—only during prolonged dry spells. Avoid overwatering.
Fertilization:
Generally not required. If needed, apply a light, low-nitrogen feed in spring. Excess nutrients can reduce flowering and fragrance.
Mulching:
Use gravel or horticultural grit to improve drainage and reflect heat. Avoid organic mulches that retain moisture around the base.
Pruning:
Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous blooms. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape. Avoid cutting into old woody growth.
Propagation:
Best propagated by semi-ripe cuttings in summer. Can also be grown from seed, though cultivars like ‘Luci Pink’ may not come true from seed.
Seasonal Interest
Spring:
Fresh grey-green foliage emerges, forming a neat, compact mound.
Summer:
Produces distinctive soft pink flower heads topped with showy bracts from late spring through summer. Lightly fragrant and highly decorative.
Autumn:
Flowering may continue into early autumn in mild conditions. Foliage remains attractive.
Winter:
Evergreen in mild climates. May need protection in colder or wetter regions, as French lavenders are less hardy than English types.
Wildlife & Garden Use
Wildlife:
Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
Garden Use:
Ideal for containers, patios, borders, gravel gardens, and Mediterranean-style planting schemes. Particularly well-suited to pots due to its compact habit and slightly lower hardiness.
Companion Plants:
Pairs well with rosemary, thyme, helichrysum, santolina, salvia, and drought-tolerant grasses. Complements other sun-loving perennials in dry garden designs.
Transform your garden with the soft pink charm of Lavender stoechas ‘Luci Pink’—a standout choice for colour, fragrance, and pollinator appeal in sunny, well-drained spaces.
