Sedum rupestre Angelina

Why Buy Me?

  • Clusters of tiny flowers
  • Late summer to autumn flowering
  • Easy to grow in most conditions

Growing Conditions

Light:
Prefers full sun for best vibrant golden-yellow foliage colour. Can tolerate partial shade, but foliage colour may be less intense.

Soil:
Thrives in well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil. Prefers sandy or gravelly soils but adapts to various soil types as long as drainage is good. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils.

Exposure:
Grows well in both sheltered and exposed locations. Hardy across the UK, tolerating frost and cold winters.

Drought Tolerance:
Highly drought-tolerant once established. Ideal for dry, sunny spots and rock gardens.

Cultivation & Care

Planting Time:
Best planted in spring or early autumn to allow roots to establish before extreme weather.

Spacing:
Space plants approximately 30 cm (12 inches) apart. Mature height reaches about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) with a spread up to 60 cm (24 inches), forming a low, spreading mat.

Watering & Fertilisation:
Water sparingly, especially after establishment. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Fertilisation generally not necessary; a light mulch of compost in spring suffices.

Mulching & Pruning:
Mulch in spring if desired to suppress weeds and retain moisture. Trim back in early spring or late autumn to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth.

Propagation:
Easily propagated by stem cuttings or division in spring or autumn. Also spreads naturally by creeping stems.

Seasonal Interest

Spring:
Bright golden-yellow foliage emerges, forming a dense carpet.

Summer:
Foliage maintains vibrant golden tones; produces small yellow star-shaped flowers in midsummer.

Autumn:
Foliage colour may deepen or take on orange hues with cooler weather, adding seasonal interest.

Winter:
Evergreen in mild climates; foliage may bronze in cold weather but generally remains attractive.

Wildlife & Garden Use

Wildlife:
Attracts pollinators such as bees when in flower. Dense mats provide shelter for beneficial insects.

Garden Use:
Ideal for ground cover in rock gardens, dry borders, containers, green roofs, and sunny banks. Its striking golden foliage provides year-round colour and contrasts well with other plants.

Companion Plants:
Pairs well with:

  • Lavender

  • Artemisia

  • Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’

  • Ornamental grasses (e.g., Festuca glauca)

  • Euphorbia

Works well with other drought-tolerant, sun-loving plants for bright, textured planting schemes.
