Why Buy Me?

  • Eye catching flowers
  • Great for trellis or a pergola
  • Fragrant

Growing Conditions

Light:
Full sun to partial shade. Prefers full sun for the best flowering and growth. Tolerates light shade but may produce fewer blooms in lower light.

Soil:
Moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Performs well in loamy or sandy soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Avoid heavy, compacted, or waterlogged soils to prevent root rot.

Exposure:
Best grown in a sheltered position such as a sunny wall, trellis, pergola, or fence. Ideal for south- or west-facing aspects. Can be grown in large containers in mild climates or moved under cover in winter in colder regions. Needs support for climbing, as it twines rather than clings.

Drought Tolerance:
Moderate. Requires regular watering during dry periods, especially while establishing. Once mature, tolerates occasional drought but benefits from consistent moisture during the growing season.

Cultivation & Care

Planting Time:
Plant in spring after the last frost or in early autumn in mild climates. Spring planting is preferred in cooler regions to allow for root establishment before winter.

Spacing:
Space 1.2–1.5 m (4–5 ft) apart when planting near other climbers or supports. Grows 3–6 m (10–20 ft) tall with support, ideal for medium to large vertical features.

Watering & Fertilization:
Water regularly during dry spells. Feed in early spring with a balanced fertilizer. An additional feeding in midsummer will support prolonged flowering and vigorous growth.

Mulching & Pruning:
Apply mulch in spring to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Pruning Group 11:
Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or overcrowded stems. Lightly trim after flowering to control size and shape. Can be cut back more substantially if needed—it resprouts reliably.

Propagation:
Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer or by layering. Softwood cuttings also root well in early summer. Vegetative propagation ensures flower form and performance.

Seasonal Interest

Spring:
Fresh foliage emerges. Growth is rapid, and flower buds begin to form as the weather warms.

Summer:
Abundant flowering from early to late summer (June–September). Displays clusters of star-shaped, pure white flowers with yellow centres, resembling jasmine. Lightly fragrant and continuously produced in warm conditions.

Autumn:
Flowering can continue into early autumn in mild regions. Foliage may remain green late into the season.

Winter:
Semi-evergreen to deciduous depending on climate. In mild areas, may retain some foliage. In colder regions, top growth may die back but will regrow in spring. Provide frost protection or grow in containers to overwinter indoors in colder zones.

Wildlife & Garden Use

Wildlife:
Attracts bees and other pollinators with its lightly scented, nectar-rich flowers. Dense summer foliage provides shelter for insects and small birds.

Garden Use:
An elegant, fast-growing climber ideal for trellises, pergolas, sunny walls, fences, and arches. Perfect for Mediterranean gardens, cottage gardens, or urban courtyards. Also suitable for large containers with a support structure in sheltered positions.

Companion Plants:
Combines well with other climbers such as Clematis, Trachelospermum jasminoides, or Lonicera. Complements soft, silvery, or finely textured plants like Lavandula, Nepeta, and Salvia. Underplant with trailing or mounding perennials to shade the roots and enhance base coverage.
