A charming houseplant with delicate, clover like leaves and pretty, small flowers. Easy to care for as long as it has plenty of light, moderate watering and good drainage.

    Oxalis

Oxalis is a charming houseplant with delicate leaves and attractive flowers. Its leaves can fold or close in response to light levels, giving the plant an interesting, lively appearance.

    Where to position

Place in a bright position with indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can be beneficial.

    Watering

    • Keep the compost lightly moist during active growth.
    • Water when the surface begins to dry.
    • Avoid allowing the plant to sit in water.
    • Reduce watering if the plant naturally enters a dormant period.

    Temperature & humidity

Normal household conditions are generally suitable. Keep away from cold draughts and very hot radiators.

Average household humidity is usually sufficient.

    Feeding & repotting

Feed during the growing season with a balanced houseplant feed.

Repot when necessary using a good-quality, free-draining houseplant compost.

    Common problems

    Wilting leaves
Check whether the compost is too dry or the plant is experiencing excessive heat.

    Yellowing leaves
Can indicate overwatering or poor drainage.

    Leaves closing or folding
This can be completely normal. Oxalis naturally responds to changes in light.

    Top tips

Don't panic when the leaves move: Folding and closing can be part of its natural behaviour.

Keep watering consistent: Avoid letting it become extremely dry during active growth.

Give it good light: Bright, indirect light encourages healthy growth and flowering.

    Pet & child safety

Oxalis can be harmful if eaten, so keep it away from pets and young children.
