Growing Conditions

Light:
Full sun to partial shade. Performs best in full sun in cooler climates, but benefits from light afternoon shade in warmer conditions to prevent stress and prolong flowering.

Soil:
Moist, well-drained soil. Prefers fertile, humus-rich soils but adapts to average garden conditions. Avoid waterlogged or overly dry soils. Thrives in slightly acidic to neutral pH.

Exposure:
Suitable for sheltered or lightly exposed positions. Hardy (USDA zones 5–9 / UK H6), making it reliable in most temperate gardens.

Cultivation & Care

Planting Time:
Plant in spring or autumn when soil conditions are mild and workable.

Spacing:
Space 30–40 cm (12–16 inches) apart. Typically grows 30–40 cm (12–16 inches) tall and about 30 cm (12 inches) wide, forming compact, clump-forming plants.

Watering & Fertilization:
Water regularly during establishment and in dry periods. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring to encourage healthy growth and repeat flowering.

Mulching & Pruning:
Apply mulch in spring to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering. Trim back tired foliage to promote fresh growth. Cut back fully in late autumn or early spring.

Propagation:
Propagate by division every 2–3 years in spring or autumn to maintain vigour. Can also be grown from seed, though named varieties may not come true.

Neat clumps of soft green, slightly hairy foliage emerge, forming a tidy mound.

From late spring through summer (May to July, often longer with deadheading), produces bright, cheerful yellow flowers held on slender, slightly arching stems above the foliage. Flowers are semi-double to double, adding texture and vibrancy.
