    Dracaena

Dracaenas are attractive, easy-going houseplants with long, architectural leaves. They're a great way to add height and structure to a room.

    Where to position

Choose a bright position with indirect light. Many Dracaenas will tolerate lower light, although growth may be slower.

    Avoid strong, direct sunlight.

    Watering

    • Allow the top part of the compost to dry before watering.
    • Check the compost before watering.
    • Water thoroughly when it feels dry.
    • Allow excess water to drain away.
    • Reduce watering during winter.

    Temperature & humidity

Normal warm household conditions are ideal. Keep away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes.

Average household humidity is usually fine.

    Feeding & repotting

Feed every few weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant feed.

Repot when the roots become crowded, using a free-draining houseplant compost.

    Common problems

    Brown leaf tips
Can be caused by dry air, inconsistent watering or mineral build-up.

    Yellow leaves
Often caused by overwatering or poor drainage.

    Drooping or soft leaves
Check the watering routine and make sure excess water can escape.

    Top tips

    • Don't overwater: Allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings.
    • Keep it away from radiators: Hot, dry air can damage the foliage.
    • Rotate regularly: Turning the plant helps it grow evenly towards the light.

    Pet & child safety

Dracaena can be harmful if eaten by cats and dogs, so keep it away from pets.
