    Spider Plant

Spider Plants are easy-going, fast-growing houseplants with attractive arching leaves. Mature plants often produce baby plants, making them a great choice for beginners.

    Where to position

Choose a bright position with indirect light. It can tolerate lower light, although growth may be slower and leaf markings less pronounced.

    Watering

    • Allow the top of the compost to dry slightly between waterings.
    • Water when the surface feels dry.
    • Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away.
    • Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
    • Reduce watering during winter.

    Temperature & humidity

Normal household temperatures suit Spider Plants well. Keep away from cold draughts and very hot radiators.

Average household humidity is usually sufficient.

    Feeding & repotting

Feed every few weeks during spring and summer with a general houseplant feed.

Repot when the roots become crowded or the plant begins to outgrow its pot.

    Common problems

    Brown leaf tips
Can be caused by dry conditions, inconsistent watering or mineral build-up in the compost.

    Yellowing leaves
    Often linked to overwatering.

    Few or no baby plants
The plant may need more light or simply needs time to mature.

    Top tips

    • Don't overwater: Let the top of the compost dry first.
    • Give it good light: Bright, indirect light encourages healthy growth.
    • Enjoy the babies: Spider Plants naturally produce offsets that can be grown into new plants.

    Pet & child safety

Spider Plants are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
