Shrubs are mainly used to provide a permanent woody background in your garden, with a range of types to provide year round colour. Flowering shrubs have become great favourites that you can plant at any time of the year.

Cistus x corbariensis

A dense bushy shrub with wavy dark green leaves. From late spring to summer red buds open to white flowers 4cm across. Grow in poor to moderately fertile soil in full sun or part shade. Height 1m (3ft). Spread 1.5m (5ft).

Cistus x pulverulentus Sunset

A compact spreading shrub with wavy-margined, grey-green leaves. Profusion of rose-pink flowers with yellow centres are borne in summer. Grow in moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. Height 60cm (24in). Spread 90cm (36in).

Cornus Alba Sibirica

A vigorous shrub with bright red winter shoots. Green leaves which turn bright red in autumn white flowers followed by white berries. Does well in both wet or dry soils. Height: 2.5m

Cornus Midwinter Fire

Deciduous Shrub. Orange-Yellow branches, turn red in winter. Height: 3m Spread: 1m Growth Rate/Habit: Vigorous/upright Aspect: sun or partial shade.

Corylus avellana Contorta

A shrub with heart-shaped green leaves and strongly twisted stems, that are particularly effective in winter. Bears yellow catkins late winter early spring. Height: 2m Spread:1.5m.

Corylus maxima Purpurea

An upright tree-like shrub with heart-shaped dark purple leaves. Yellow purple tinged catkins in winter/early spring. Produces hazelnuts in tubular husks ripening in autumn. Height: 6m

Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple

A bushy tree or shrub with oval, deep purple leaves, turning red in autumn. Pink coloured, plume-like inflorescences, give a smoke like effect. Height: 2m Spread: 2m

Cotoneaster Coral Beauty

A spreading shrub with branches forming a herringbone pattern. Glossy, dark green leaves, turn red in autumn. Pink-tinged white flowers are followed by bright red round fruit. Height: 2.5m

Cotoneaster franchetii

An erect to shrub with arching branches. Leaves grey-green above, white beneath. White, suffused red, flowers are followed by bright orange-red, round fruit. Height: 2.5m Spread: 2.5m.
