For every month of the year, Thompsons Plant & Garden Centre will be offering you our expert advice on all things gardening.

We aim to use our everyday knowledge of gardening to help you on your way to creating, maintaining or improving your garden. We'll use tips from our expert nursery growers on all things planting, flowering and growing as well as general gardening tips from our garden centre staff.

General Gardening Tips

•Start to mow your lawn if it’s dry, otherwise wait until March.
•Plant deciduous trees, shrubs & climbers if the ground is workable and weather is mild.
•Towards the end of February cut back seed heads of perennials to make room for new growth.
•Make sure you dig over your beds by the end of February.
•Cut back your rose bushes by about a third, pruning out dead material.
•Spike lawns to aid drainage.
•Primroses are a great value way of brightening up your garden.
•Stop pots from freezing by raising them off the ground.

What's New at Thompsons?

A NEW range of flowering bulbs have arrived at all our garden centres. Choose from close to 200 varieties, with favourites such as Dahlias, Begonias and Gladioli. By planting your bulbs in the spring you’ll have colourful additions to your garden during summer.
